BAHOOKA'S in Rosemead.
This has been a family favorite since I was a little girl; back when they used to serve their drinks in REAL pineapples!
This restauant has a nautical/tropical/Hawaiian feel to it. It's dark and klunky. The decor is the best! It's what makes the visit to Bahooka such a treat!!
Most of the tables seem secluded. In fact, you kinda feel like you might be the only one in the restarant, and then you're suprised at how many cars are in the parking lot. Tables are stuck anywhere and the dark atmosphere lends to the solitude. So do the fish. I didn't mention the fish?! Big ol' suckers in tanks all over the restaurant. The tanks creat the walls of your booth! Totally cool. Bring a camera!
The food....well the menu is one long sheet that is two-sided. One side lists all of the beverages. The drinks are broked down in Rum Drinks, Vodka Drinks, Gin Drinks...etc. There are also some flaming non-alcoholic ones that come in a large bowl and everyone gets very long straws to drink out of. The HILO HATIE for 2 was my favorite drink.
I ordered my usual, an open faced Pastrami sandwich. This meat is so lean. Just picking it off the grilled bun and eating it piece by lean piece was great. Comes with a boat load of thick cut "steak" frieds, a sliced of fresh pineapple, some bbq sauce, mustard, and a house salad made with their famous dressing.
Jacob had the pulled pork sandwich. The dishes were served basically the same, altho the pork cam on a longer bun, and the pastrami came on a round bun.
This is such a treat, but since it's a little far for us, it's a fun place to take company and out of town guests (they might especially like the fact that a couple of movies have been filmed there)!
